PadmaSri Kalamandir (PSK) is a registered and a renowned institution in Hosur, striving to bring a revolution in the field of Bharatanatyam since 2007. It attempts to inculcate the traditional values and culture of our land through the teaching of Bharatanatyam. The institution follows a curriculum divided amongst eight levels as per the outline of Natya Shastra. This ensures the coverage of both theoretical and practical knowledge of Bharatanatyam.
The achievements and growth of PSK is the result of the culminative efforts of the parents, students and Gurus- Shri S Krishnan and Smt Anjana Krishnan. The hard work of Guru Shri S Krishnan and Guru Smt Anjana Krishnan has made the ideology of the institution come to life. What sets PSK apart is that it is not just a mere institution or school of dance, it is a cultural society which is attempting to redefine the way Bharatanatyam is taught, practised and experienced. PSK is for anyone who wants to delve deeper or gain an understanding of Bharatanatyam.
The Instructors
Shri. S. Krishnan, started learning Bharathanatyam from Guru Smt. Renuka Balasubramaniam, Neyveli at the age of 7. He has performed 108 Karanas (which is an intricate form of Shiva Thandavam), during Shivaratri programme “Mahakumbeshwara” at Neyveli in 2004. Along with his dance career, he graduated in B.E.,(Mining) from Anna University, Chennai. He has given numerous performances in various places in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, participated in Sabha programmes & competitions, and won laurels under Gurus Shri. Prakash Krishna (Neyveli) & Shri. Ratheesh Krishna (Chennai). He was affectionately called “Nadana Puyal” at Neyveli & “Madipakam Dhananjayan” during a performance in Chennai. He upgraded his professional skills in the art during his Masters Degree course at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Trichy, where he improved his knowledge on choreography and natuvangam. Guru S. Krishna, Founder-Director, PSK - Hosur, is now a multi-faceted personality in the field of classical dance & music - a performer, guru, nattuvanar, choreographer, exponent in vocal music and a teacher for teachers.
Smt. Anjana Krishnan (B.A. Bharatanatyam,, M.S.W., started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 8, under the guidance of Guru Smt. Sharadamani Shekar, Director, “Sanathana Natyalaya”, Mangalore and completed her senior grade with distinction. She has given a number of stage programmes along with her Gurus in Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Kerala. Notably, She performed in the 1000th year celebration of Tanjai Periya Kovil (2011) and was an embassy from Alva’s College for a cultural event “Vishwa Nudisiri Virasath” in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. Smt. Anjana Krishnan is also a versatile performer of Mohiniyattam & Kathak, including exposure to various folk styles. Now, Anjana Krishna has joined hands last year with Guru S. Krishna to elevate PadmaSri Kalamandir, Hosur, to the level of University of Cultural Arts.
The Tutors
D/o Shri. M. Butchi Babu & Smt. Mohini A Salian M. Shiva Shambhavi is a dedicated artist who has been learning Bharathanatyam since the age of seven from Guru Shri. S. Krishnan. Shambhavi accomplished her Salangai Pooja on 18 th January, 2014 and Arangetram on 17 th May 2019. To add a feather on her cap, Shambhavi participated in National level competition held at Aurangabad (2017) and won 1 st prize in solo and group. Her active participation in numerous Bharathanatyam events and competitions gave her a good experience & confidence to receive a lot of accolades. Her remarkable performance along with PSK troupe was placed in Asia book of records during their participation in Guinness World record event organized by Hidden Idol (Dec 2017, Banglore) Apart from proving her forte in Bharathanatyam, Shiva Shambhavi was awarded ‘A’ certificate in NCC examination and camp held at Salem in the year 2019 under the authority of Ministry of Defence, Government of India. She was also awarded RAJYA PURASKAR from ‘The Bharat Scouts and Guides’ in the year 2017. She is currently pursuing her 12 th std.
D/o Shri. K. Ayyankumar & Smt. V. Ayyammal Nithyasri, a passionate learner and sincere student, has been learning the art of Bharathanatyam under the tutelage of Guru Shri. S. Krishnan from her tender age of six. Completed Salangai Pooja on 25 th October, 2014. She has participated in several dance programmes and competitions winning many awards, prizes & appreciations. Nithyasri has been a part in the National Level Competition held at Aurangabad (2017) & Pune (2019) winning 1 st prize for solo, duet & group performances. Besides her dance career, she won 1 st prize in Bhagavat Geeta Recitation competition for reciting 50+ shlokas in school level and also won 2 nd place in district level Hockey Tournament. Currently, she is doing her 10 th Grade at Siddharth Village School, Hosur.
D/o Shri. S. Prabu & Smt. N. Sasikala Harshitha has been learning Bharathanatyam for past 9 years at the reputed institution - PadmaSri Kalamandir, Hosur. She completed her Salangai Pooja in the event GURU KRUPAM on 26 th February, 2017. Participated in several Dance programmes & competitions, and received awards & prizes with her Gurus’ troupe. She has won 1 st prize in group, 2 nd place in solo and 3 rd in duet category at National Level Dance competition organized by Akhil Lokkala Cultural Organization at Pune during May 2019. Her remarkable performance along with PSK troupe was placed in Asia book of records during their participation in Guinness world record event organized by Hidden idol (December 2017, Bangalore). Harshitha is also pursuing training for Carnatic Vocal music for the past 4 years. She is also the Cadet of Scouts & Guides with ‘A’ certificate. Presently, she is doing her 10 th grade at Asian Christian High School, Hosur.
D/o. Shri. A. Selva Raju & Smt. Vijayalakshmi S. Keerthana is the first one to learn Bharathanatyam in her bloodline. With the blessings of her Gurus, Shri. S. Krishnan & Smt. Anjana Krishnan, she has reached the height of completing 6 levels in this divine art form. She has been pursuing Bharathanatyam for the past 10 years. She performed her Salangai Pooja on 18 th January, 2014 & has participated in many prestigious Natya Sabhas at Hosur and Guruvayur. Other than dancing, Keerthana has completed the 8 grades of Hindi examination. Also, She has won 2 nd prize in district level Kho Kho tournament. Presently studying 10 th std in Parimalam Matriculation School, Hosur.
